Assessment Placement: This assessment is for students who wish to complete all or part of the college placement in English and/or Math. • Please note that due to the AB705 legislation, our testing policy has changed and most sessions may only take up to 15 minutes to complete. The placement process is no longer completed by taking an actual test, so no studying/preparation is needed.
English as a Second Language Test (ESL): This test is for students who wish to take English as a Second Language classes. The test is designed to measure a student's knowledge of the English language, as well as the student's readiness to take college-level classes. It is not pass or fail; it is only used to determine what level of ESL you will start off in. The ESL test consists of two sections: Listening Comprehension, Grammar/Usage/Reading Comprehension. The Listening Comprehension section is not timed, but the Grammar/Usage/Reading Comprehension section is 50 minutes. It takes about 1.5-2 hours to complete the entire test.
Spanish Test: This test is for students who wish to take a Spanish class higher than SPA-1. It is an adaptive computer-based test that is not timed, but can take up to 1.5 hours to complete.
Walk-in Assessment Placement Requirements: Walk-in placement sessions are only for students completing the English and/or mathplacement requirements (No ESL or Spanish unless specified in calendar). Students wanting to assess must have: current MVC application on file; MVC listed as home college; completed online Orientation via student MyPortal or WebAdvisor account; and have not assessed within a year or started progression in English or math courses. NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED!! These sessions are only offered on specified dates and are on a first-come, first-served basis! Orientation: The Orientation is ONLY for first-time college students who need to complete the college Orientation and/or complete the First Semester Educational Plan (Counseling). Appointment cannot be scheduled online. Please confirm your participation via email at firstname.lastname@example.org, via text at 951-472-2176, or via telephone at 951-571-6427. The event lasts approximately 1.5 to 2 hours total. When submitting your confirmation, please provide us with your full name and date of birth!
